RECONSTRUCTION OF ACOUSTIC PROPERTIES OF SEA-FLOOR SEDIMENTS ON THE BASIS OF MEASUREMENTS OF REFLECTION COEFFICIENTS FROM SHALLOW SEA BOTTOM IN THE KILOHERZ FREQUENCY BAND

In this paper a possibility of the reconstruction of acoustic properties of the sea-floor sediments on the basis of measurements of the angle dependency of reflection coefficient are investigated. The experimental works accompanied by collecting of sediment samples and measurements of sediment density and porosity. The reconstruction procedure are based on the fit between experimental data and results of numeric simulations. For this purpose the objective function on the basis of the maximum likelihood method are formed. The extremum of the objective function are founded by the method of multidimensional optimization (Nelder-Mead method). The sediment acoustic properties obtained from the reconstruction are compared with results of direct measurements, literature data and the regression analysis estimation which connect velocity of compression waves with sediment porosity. It is shown that the angle dependency of amplitude of the reflection coefficient can be used for determining of acoustic characteristics of marine sediments with reasonably well accuracy.
